Money, Money, Money… Smoky Mountains Version
Oh no, not the money topic is what most of you are probably thinking. I promise I am going to share all of the tips and tricks that I have followed or discovered when traveling as a college student! First, I am going to focus on lodging and food, which are typically some of the biggest expenses when it comes to traveling!
Food Options!
If you’re like me, food is one of the best parts about a trip and I love to try new places! On a college budget, this can sometimes be a challenge, but I promise that I have some suggestions that are cheap and still just as good. I will put a few suggestions below for dinner, oh and also coffee. We can’t forget about coffee!
- JT Hannah’s Kitchen
- If you are looking for somewhere to eat that is family friendly and has options for everyone, this is the place! With American fare food, you can get anything from a steak to a salad, and for a fair price too!
- Smoky Mountain Espresso
- Just because I am on vacation doesn’t mean my love for coffee goes away. I love to try local coffee shops wherever I go and happened to try this one a couple of times during my last trip. They have many options and will definitely satisfy your coffee craving!
~Glamping~
Now, on to affordable lodging options. I have stayed in many places ranging from hotels, to condos, to camping in The Smoky Mountains. However, I am going to highlight my favorite option because it was very much affordable and fun! This option is called ~glamping~. Although I love to do anything outdoors, I will admit that camping has never been one of my all time favorite activities. This was the truth until… I found “glamping!” Glamping is basically a more comfortable form of camping. The tent is elevated and includes things like a real bed, a hot plate to cook simple meals, and a small shower. Below is my suggestion for glamping in The Smoky Mountains!
- The Ridge Outdoor Resort
- The Ridge Outdoor Resort features many different types of accommodations for all travelers. They offer space for campers, tiny houses, and glamping tents. The tent we stayed in was elevated, had a porch with a picnic table and grill, offered 3 different beds, had a small shower, a hot plate for cooking simple meals like pasta, and a small TV. The tent is still regulated by the outside temperature just like regular camping, so be sure to either bring blankets or fans depending on the season you chose to go in. The price for this tent was very reasonable and affordable for 3 college students on a budget. It does not break the bank, but still offers a safe and great place to stay!
Looking at Next Week!
Overall, one of the main things I love about The Smoky Mountains is that it has something for everyone. Whether you are an avid hiker, someone who loves roller coasters, someone who just likes to relax and shop, you can find something in The Smoky Mountains. This trip fits itineraries ranging from families to college-aged students looking for a fun trip! Stay tuned because next week I will be talking about all things ~beach~!
