Birmingham, Alabama- The best restaurants, coffee shops, and activities!

This week’s travel destination is one that is near and dear to my heart. It has been my home away from home for the past four years and has provided me with some of the best memories. Can anybody take a guess on the place?? If you guessed Birmingham, Alabama, you are correct! I thought it would be fun to have a week focused on a destination that has so much more to offer than people may think.

Restaurants That Don’t Disappoint!

In true Bailey fashion, I am going to be focusing on some of my favorite restaurants/coffee shops in Birmingham. Whether you are looking for a unique and fancier dining option, one that is casual and cheap, or one that is in-between, Birmingham has many options to fit all styles. One of my favorite things to do on a Friday night in Birmingham is try a new restaurant that I have never been to or even heard of! I have discovered some hidden gems through this tradition and can’t wait to share them with you. Read below to hear about some of my favorites:

  1. Taco Mama
  • For all my local Birmingham people reading this blog post, I feel like you could agree that Taco Mama is a must-try for people visiting Birmingham. No matter the night, Taco Mama is a social hub with great food and a great atmosphere. My personal favorite are their burritos with a side of queso.
  1. Los Valedores Taco Truck
  • I personally am someone that loves to try new foods, and I am SO glad I tried this food truck. The tacos here are simply AMAZING and are a very AMAZING price! I would highly suggest this fun stop to anyone exploring Birmingham.
  1. The Essential
  • I will start by saying this option can be on the more expensive side, but if you are having a splurge meal, this is the place to do it! The food here is fresh, natural, and unique and offers many great options. Not to mention, their brunch and coffee are some of the best I have ever had.
  1. Bamboo on 2nd
  • Last but not least, is Bamboo on 2nd. If you are a sushi lover, this place is for you! I must say, I am not a sushi eater, but I did have a delicious Ramen bowl here and have gone back multiple times! A great and unique option for many different occasions.

Coffee shops that offer great coffee and a great atmosphere!

When it comes to coffee shops, there are so many small and independently owned options in Birmingham. I will never forget when I first moved to Birmingham, I was so excited when people told me about all of the amazing coffee shops I needed to try. Flash forward 4 years and I still haven’t tried them all! Ironically, I am actually sitting in a new coffee shop writing this article. Below are a few of my favorites that you need to try if you are visiting or passing through Birmingham!

  1. Seeds Coffee
  • Seeds Coffee has some of the best quality coffee I have tried in a long time. Great coffee and a special community atmosphere make this place one of my favorites. Personally, I am biased toward the iced vanilla latte made with macadamia milk. It is simply amazing.
  1. Red Cat
  • Red Cat has multiple locations around downtown Birmingham and is a great option for coffee. They have everything from matcha, to specialty lattes, to smoothies (for all you non-coffee drinkers) and are located in some of the cutest spots downtown!
  1. Cala Coffee
  • Cala Coffee just recently opened and has been a hit in the Birmingham community! The coffee shop is so bright, fun, and offers the best atmosphere for studying and catching up with friends. I would highly suggest their strawberry matcha!

Talk to you soon!

As you can tell, Birmingham is so much fun to explore and I hope you love these places as much as I do when you visit! Stay tuned for more about the magic city later this week!
